Singing Mamas
Singing Mamas is a national non-profit movement which supports women across the UK to build song-sharing communities that improve well-being. Find out more at www.singingmamas.org
In our groups in Broadclyst and Silverton you will find a wonderful community of women of all ages,
some bringing little ones. We have women of ALL ages, stages and life phases.
Singers, shy-singers and “I can’t sing-singers” are all equally welcome.
What's it like?
We sit on chairs in a circle with a mat with quiet toys for little ones in the middle.
Brief warm-up & check-in: a chance to pause, find your feet and reconnect with yourself. We do this through either very simple singing, or a game or simple mindfulness exercise. Join in as you want to, it’s all an invitation, not obligatory. This start to the session helps the group get focused as a circle and helps the little ones settle into a feeling of being held.
Sing: We sing in order to lift our spirits and connect with one another, and there is no expectation that we should sound a certain way. No-one will ever be asked to sing on their own, we will always sing together, so our voices blend and no-one feels uncomfortable. We learn our songs by ear, which means there’s no sheet music or even words written down. I’ll sing a line of a song and everyone will echo it back, and then we’ll loop the song until it feels comfortable and familiar. If you’ve never sung with others before or think you will sing out of tune that’s ok. It’s just about enjoying it.
Cuppa and cake: Essential! For half an hour after singing you’re welcome to hang about, chat, have a cuppa and eat home-made cake.

Marion Brown - Singing Mamas leader
I am a song sharer, community choir leader, singer, and singing & piano teacher based in Bradninch, Mid-Devon. I'm passionate about sharing my love of singing and enabling people to find their voice and to enjoy singing together.
I believe that everyone can sing (including those who've been told they can't) and that singing together with others is so good for our mental, emotional and physical well-being.
I'm a mum of two teenage boys; I suffered with post-natal depression - I wish there had been a group like this for me at that point! Singing plays a vital part in my own well-being and I just love my work enabling others' singing & using singing to connect women with themselves, their little ones & each other.

When and where do we meet?
On Wednesday mornings in term time in Silverton Evangelical Church at 10.30-12.
On Thursdays during term-time in Victory Hall, Broadclyst from 9.30-11am and also 11.15-12.45.
What does it cost?
Come and try us out for free!
Please email Marion at [email protected] to book your free taster session and get more details and directions of where to find the group. Both venues have plenty of free parking, and the Broadclyst venue is by the bus stop for the no.1 bus between Exeter & Cullompton.
Then a place at one of the groups costs £24 per month. This equates to £7.78 per session, with 37 sessions over the year (term time only). In order to keep the group financially viable people are asked to make the monthly payment for their place even if they have to miss a session or two. We have also found that making this commitment helps the building of community and continuity in the group, and can also help motivate members to come to the group on days when that might feel difficult.
If cost is a barrier to you joining at the moment, please do get in touch with Marion in confidence,
as we sometimes have some funding available for reduced-cost or free bursary places.
